RULES (SPARC)

Competition Rules

  • The exact competition rules are t.b.d. – they will follow these ideas:
    • The emphasis of this competition is software/ AI/ HRI/ SLAM/ Perception – those aspects will be rewarded with proportionally more points than teleoperation as compared to the open league.
    • Teleoperation points will still be available, but at a lower proportion, to still give some points & encouragements to teams who fail to perform autonomously in some lanes.
    • SPARC will share test lanes with the open RRL competition – even though there might be some lanes which are only available to either (e.g. SPARC will most likely not use the door lane (too difficult) nor crossing ramps (too easy); there might be some new SPARC only lanes).
    • SPARC will run concurrently and mixed with the open competition (e.g. one lane might have a SPARC run while the neighboring lane might, at the same time, host an open run – and next time slot they might switch). To ease the administration of both leagues, many rules will be identical between the two competitions, e.g.:
          • Run times with setup, mobility, dexterity
          • Adjudication of mobility and dexterity runs
          • Rules for operators, resets, tethered operation, etc.
    • SPARC will NOT require the advanced sensor setup of the open competition, the sensor head only is encouraged to host an RGB-D camera. No audio, proximity sensor, IR sensor, CO2, etc. is required. Thus, SPARC will skip the victim box identification step.
    • SPARC will use similar, but different forms to record the run performance in the lanes.
    • SPARC will offer 1st, 2nd and 3rd places (if enough teams compete). Best In Class certificates are not awarded for SPARC (points for Best In Class can be only collected in the open competition).
    • In order to diverge the two competitions, points, rules and test methods (lanes) may emphasize autonomy, perception, inspection and AI for SPARC and tracked and legged locomotion as well as dexterous manipulation for the open competition.
